Storage of lithium-based energy carriers.
PGS 37-2
This PGS covers the storage of lithium-based energy carriers. Lithium batteries and accumulators are storage media used for such things as laptops, e-bikes, in electric or hybrid vehicles, and for future marine transportation.
The storage of lithium-ion batteries and accumulators has several risks. The batteries can become unstable when overcharged, deeply discharged, and exposed to high and low temperatures. This can cause short circuits, thermal runaway and fire. This can release highly toxic pyrolysis products. The extinguishing process produces corrosive and toxic extinguishing water to which emergency responders, bystanders and occupants may be exposed.
Target group
Storage companies, or dealers.
In addition, lithium battery storage has increased dramatically in recent years due to the high demand for electric bicycles and electric cars, among others.
Duration
2 day's 09:00 - 16:00
Content
To comply with the PGS standard, you must meet a number of important safety requirements. The following topics are covered during the audit;
Structural measures and facilities;
Operations and activities;
Suitability of racking;
Storage location;
Records and documentation;
Education and training of personnel;
Safety within the facility;
Fire safety;
Fire extinguishers;
Emergency plan, incidents and emergencies.
The length of the consulting process depends on the amount of hazardous materials/lithium batteries stored in your facility. A distinction is also made within the standard between new and refurbished batteries.
